BLOGGING SHEFFIELD MEETUP

Do you run a community blog or website? Or blog about Sheffield issues? Then come and meet up with other people doing the same thing on Friday May 11 from 10:30 am to 12 at Sheffield Live! 93.2fm, Paternoster Row, S1 2BX (above the Showroom Cinema). Free coffee and cake!

All over Sheffield there are websites and blogs providing news and information for local people – mostly running on the blood, sweat and tears of community workers and volunteers – people who love Sheffield and want it to be an even better place.

These websites and blogs play a vital role in promoting local participation and democracy. The potential of these sites is growing as technology develops and allows more people to create their own media content such as video and photographs and to easily upload them onto blogs and sites. Nesta has just produced a review of what it calls hyperlocal media and a small funding scheme to support projects, available at:

This Meetup will bring together the people who create and run these sites in Sheffield to look at ways that news and other content can be shared and exchanged and to encourage the exchange of ideas and experience.

The event is being hosted by Sheffield Live! 93.2fm Community Radio station and CM Solutions as part of the Sheffield Community Network project.  The Sheffield Community Network project is a major initiative, funded through the European Regional Development Fund. It aims to promote digital opportunities in Sheffield communities to encourage social enterprise, job creation and digital participation. The programme is providing advice, support and funding to individuals and groups across the city.
