Commuters Set to Earn Carbon Quids
SHEFFIELD CITY COUNCIL NEWS RELEASE
Commuters on Ecclesall Road will start earning Carbon Quids® this week, as rewards for choosing greener ways to travel.
People choosing to walk, cycle, take the bus or car share on and around Ecclesall Road will earn Carbon Quids for their journeys, which can then be redeemed in local shops, cafes and restaurants.
From this week, people can sign up at www.carbonquids.info, record their journeys, and start collecting the points, or ‘quids’. They will then receive a reward card that gives them discounts and freebies with local businesses.
Fiona Mitchell from Ecclesall plans to sign up to the scheme:
“Having just moved to the area, we’ve decided to sell our car and walk more. We’re finding it quick, easy and cheap to do the school run and get to work on foot, and now we’ll be able to save even more with the Carbon Quids scheme.”
Businesses where people can redeem their Carbon Quids include Endcliffe Park Café, Little Gems, Beauty Care Salon, Flora, Cuts of Class, and Rhyme and Reason. Offers include 20% off services at 284 hair, 10% off fine Jewellery at Adorn, free drinks with food purchases at Endcliffe Park Café, and buy one get one free at Pizza Hut.
The scheme benefits local businesses by drawing customers into their shop, bar or restaurant to redeem their rewards. Christine Parker, owner of Cuts of Class, said:
“We are very keen to be involved in Carbon Quids. It’s a great idea and we are more than happy to provide the offers to local people, particularly as it contributes to helping the environment.”
So local people and businesses will be helping themselves as well as helping the environment by making smarter choices. To find out more about the scheme, visit www.carbonquids.info.
